Report: Satakunta can produce and consume e-methane
Industry in Satakunta needs a connection to the national methane network. Satakunta is a strong industrial region home to a wide range of industries, and new investments are in the works, such as in the production of synthetic methane.
A recent report titled "The Methane Potential of the Satakunta Industrial Zone" outlines the potential in terms of both production and consumption. The report was prepared to support the expansion plans of both local industry and Gasgrid. Among other things, the report describes how the Pori LNG terminal would diversify the security of the methane network and how a methane pipeline would enable lower-emission energy use in both existing industry and new applications, such as data centers.
Current methane use and identified potential for use in Satakunta are concentrated along the Kokemäenjoki River from Pori to Kokemäki, as well as in Rauma. The estimated production potential of approximately 250,000 tons and consumption potential of 44,700 tons together form a significant market basis for the development of methane transmission infrastructure in Satakunta. The map below includes not only existing and potential production and consumption sites but also an outline of the methane network route, the national hydrogen transmission pipeline currently in the EIA phase, and the alignment of the regional hydrogen distribution pipeline based on a preliminary study conducted for the Pori area. A map covering the entire Satakunta region and a more detailed breakdown of the sites presented can be found in the report.
