Winda Energy to supply renewable electricity to Ren-Gas in Tampere

Nordic Ren-Gas Oy (Ren-Gas) has selected renewable energy project developer Winda Energy Oy as its renewable electricity partner for the first Power-to-Gas production plant in Tampere. The long-term procurement agreement signed in late autumn ensures cost-effective production of e-methane while promoting the development of new wind power capacity in Finland.

Winda Energy and Ren-Gas have jointly developed and signed a long-term Hydrogen Power Purchase Agreement (H2PPA) for the Tampere e-methane project. The agreement focuses on new onshore wind power in Finland and is tailored for the production of green hydrogen and renewable e-methane.

“Winda Energy, supported by its main owner BHM Renewables, is actively participating in H2PPA negotiations for both wind and solar power projects with Ren-Gas, which promotes the achievement of the final investment decision for both projects.”

“We at Winda Energy are thrilled to contribute to the development of Europe’s first industrial-scale e-methane production facility by providing renewable energy as the electricity partner. We are pleased with the trust between our companies, enabling this exciting collaboration under the H2PPA agreement,” says Anette Danielsson, Development Manager at Winda Energy.

Founded in Finland, Winda Energy Oy has been developing renewable energy projects for over a decade, with more than 30 wind and solar projects in various stages of development across Finland. Development Manager Anette Danielsson views the partnership with Ren-Gas as inspiring, emphasizing the close collaboration needed between industrial projects and renewable energy developers to ensure the success of the green transition and to facilitate new investments in Finland.

“It has been fantastic to develop the H2PPA agreement with the Winda team. The H2PPA structure enables electricity procurement from new wind and solar parks in Finland while meeting the EU’s strict requirements for renewable hydrogen production. This model ensures electricity supply for the e-methane production facility and supports the development of new wind power capacity in Finland. I am confident that our strong collaboration with Winda Energy will deepen as we move toward final investment decisions,” states Matti Rautkivi, Head of Market Development at Ren-Gas.

Ren-Gas is a developer of green hydrogen and e-methane projects, recognized by both the EU and the Finnish government as vital and feasible green transition initiatives. Established in 2021, the company has built a top-tier portfolio in the hydrogen sector. Construction of the Tampere e-methane project will begin in 2025, with commercial operations starting in 2027.
