TUKES published a guide on safe handling and storage of hydrogen
The Finnish Safety and Chemicals Agency (TUKES) has published a guide to the safe handling and storage of hydrogen. The introduction justifies the publication of the guide by stating that, although hydrogen has long been used as an industrial chemical, its use as a transport fuel and as part of energy systems is new. In addition, hydrogen storage projects are being planned.
As a result, both operators and local and regional authorities have called for guidelines and procedures for the safe production and distribution of hydrogen. This guide aims to respond to this need. For example, it does not provide precise metric values for safety distances, but it does provide recommendations for the selection of parameters and modelling programs and for the interpretation of results.
The clearly written handbook also serves as a quick reference guide to basic hydrogen concepts. It also provides references to all relevant legislation in Finland and concludes with international examples of standardisation practices.
The guide is available here in Finnish as a webpage and a pdf to be downloaded.
