P2X Solutions to supply hydrogen to Helsinki-Vantaa Airport

The aim of the project is to test the use of green hydrogen as an energy source for airport maintenance equipment for the first time in Finland.

Finavia's pilot project will test the performance of a hydrogen-powered maintenance vehicle in Finland's demanding climatic conditions in January 2026. Various tools, such as a brush blower and snow plow, can be attached to the vehicle, enabling its versatile use in airport maintenance tasks throughout the year.

Green hydrogen and its derivatives, such as synthetic aviation fuel eSAF, offer the aviation sector opportunities to reduce emissions in both airport ground operations and air traffic itself.

"Finavia has achieved net zero carbon dioxide emissions in its own operations in 2025. The piloting of green hydrogen in airport maintenance equipment is a concrete example of how we are developing solutions that also support companies operating at the airport in reducing their own emissions. Through this project, we are strengthening our role as an enabler of the green transition in the entire aviation industry," says Sami Kiiskinen, Development Director at Helsinki Airport.

"We are proud to be bringing green hydrogen to the air traffic environment for the first time in Finland. The collaboration with Finavia gives us the opportunity to test the technology in practice and demonstrate that hydrogen can significantly reduce emissions even in demanding conditions," says Herkko Plit, CEO of P2X Solutions.

The pilot project provides Finavia with information on the safe use of green hydrogen in the aviation industry and lays the foundation for wider adoption in the future. The pilot project is part of the EU-funded Interreg Baltic Sea Region HyAirport program.
