P2X Solutions to supply Danisco Sweeteners with green hydrogen
P2X Solutions and Danisco Sweeteners, part of the International Flavors & Fragrances Inc. (IFF) group, have signed an agreement that will see Danisco Sweeteners' Kotka plant produce xylitol using green hydrogen supplied by P2X Solutions. Xylitol production always requires, among other things, xylose and hydrogen.
"Our collaboration with Danisco is a great demonstration of the role of green hydrogen in the industrial transition to cleaner production. Green hydrogen can contribute to the move away from fossil energy in a wide range of industries. We are excited to be part of making a great Finnish innovation, xylitol, even more sustainable," says Herkko Plit, CEO of P2X Solutions.
The xylitol produced by Danisco's Kotka plant is known under the brand name XIVIA, which distinguishes Kotka xylitol from other xylitol on the market due to its lower carbon footprint.
"For IFF, sustainability is a core value and the Kotka factory wants to work with suppliers who share this same value. It is important to the factory that the energy used in the process, as well as the raw materials, are produced according to sustainable principles. P2X Solutions Oy is a pioneer of green hydrogen, and our cooperation will make the Kotka plant's xylitol an even more sustainable product," says Mari Kainiemi, CEO of Danisco Sweeteners Oy.
From 2024, P2X Solutions' Harjavalta plant will produce green hydrogen using renewable energy. The process will not produce climate emissions like conventional hydrogen production, for example using natural gas.
