P2X Solutions selects energy management system from ABB to the Harjavalta plant
P2X Solutions has selected the ABB Ability OPTIMAX energy management system for production planning and energy market optimization at Finland’s first industrial-scale green hydrogen and synthetic methane production plant in Harjavalta.
Hydrogen production is a very energy-intensive process and optimization plays a key role in ensuring cost efficiency.
“Monitoring and strategically directing power flows and energy use enable a system that operates harmoniously across different energy markets and delivers tangible value by minimizing the production costs of hydrogen and synthetic fuels,” says Herkko Plit, CEO of P2X Solutions.
“While the Harjavalta plant serves as launchpad, our ambition is to elevate system integration to a level that enables seamless connection of multiple plants onto a unified platform,” Plit explains.
P2X Solutions’ Harjavalta plant is currently in commissioning phase. Once in operation by the end of 2024, the Harjavalta plant will open up the Finnish green hydrogen market and helps to drive P2X Solutions’ mission to achieve a total of 1 GW of production capacity across all facilities by 2031. The Harjavalta plant will also accelerate other hydrogen derivatives, as it includes methanation capacity for the production of renewable synthetic methane. In addition to Harjavalta, P2X Solutions is advancing hydrogen production plant projects in Joensuu and Oulu.
